If president rents White House for a month, it will cost $1.8m - USA

WASHINGTON: If US President Barack Obama was a tenant at the White House, he could afford to stay at the 132-room iconic mansion for just over six months. The 55,000-sq-foot residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would cost a tenant $1.8 million a month in rent, according to Zillow, an online real estate portal.

It put together a listing for the mansion, estimating a total sale price would top $319 million. Describing it as a "magnificent 132-room mansion", the posting boasts about its gated entry, doorman and security system. It estimates a tax of $109,000 for the historic property and says homeowner's insurance could cost $92 per month, New York Daily News reported.

In order to keep the exterior a blinding white, 570 gallons of paint are required. The home includes 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows and 28 fireplaces.

The President has an estimated networth of $12.2 million, with an annual salary of $400,000. If he were expected to cough up rent, he and his family could stay only for 6.7 months, the paper said.
